ARTIST • DIRECTOR • EDUCATOR
Meena Satnarain is an artist, director, and education specialist working in New York and Maryland. Her art is an innovative mix of traditional craft with technology, often weaving elements of textiles, sculpture, and video. She believes technology has a unique power to form first-person narratives. A recent professional achievement was getting the Royal Collection Trust in England to correctly attribute a vase to indigenous Guyanese artist Stephanie Correia.
Textual Objects is a force of nature developed from her RISD MFA in Digital Media. Her latest work as a filmmaker and animator uses traditional techniques with machine artistry — her preferred term over “artificial intelligence.”
Meena holds an MA in Art Education from New York University and a BA in Visual & Performing Arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
