'Objectification of Breath' (2008)
wood (purpleheart, southern yellow pine), handspun wool yarn, lasercut steel, custom electronics (photocell, arduino board, LED, wires)
A type of instrument that measures the characteristics of handspun wool yarn between two large lathed wooden spool forms and plays back sounds of recorded breath. Short inhale or exhale sounds are strung together in sequence based on the physical measurements of the yarn that are occurring in real-time as it is fed through a small enclosed box. Inspired by the installation 'Breathing Cycles'
